Original Post from 5/18/2018:

At Screencastify, we’re committed to your privacy. We know that we must earn your trust—and keep it—every time you use our tool. The people who build Screencastify care deeply about privacy on a personal level. After all, we use Screencastify every day, and we handle your information with the same care that we use for ourselves, our family, and our friends.

That's why we're proud to have achieved full certification from the Internet Keep Safe Organization for compliance with COPPA, FERPA, and SOPIPA. This is the most secure level of certification available for educational technology products.

As part of that certification process, we've rewritten our privacy policy to make it clearer, more transparent, and more thorough.

Our new policy will take effect on May 25, 2018. If you continue to use Screencastify after May 25, this new policy will apply.

You can read the entire policy here. Some of the key points are:

We only collect essential personal data. Specifically, we collect your email address, basic app usage data, and any information you choose to share with us (for example if you email us or complete a survey).

We never sell or rent your data to third parties. We'll never build a user profile for targeted advertisements. We make money from selling Premium subscriptions - and that's it.

You own your videos. Unlike some other screencasting tools, we do not own (or even host) your videos. You are in full control of your videos and whom you want to share them with.

We use industry best practices to protect your data. Screencastify has strict security measures in place to try to protect your information and make sure that it is not lost, damaged or accessed by anyone who should not see it. Your data is transmitted securely over SSL and stored in Google Cloud. To learn more about Google Cloud’s security measures, please visit https://cloud.google.com/security. We also conduct regular security audits on these services and access to this data is restricted to only authorized employees of Screencastify with suitable training and background checks.

We'll let you know if anything changes. If we make any material changes to our policies, we will send you a link to our new policy along with a summary of our updated data collection practices via email or through our application.

We want to be as transparent as possible. If you have any questions, please email us at privacy@screencastify.com.

Thank you for your continued support, and happy screencasting!
