We are only halfway through the month of May and it has already been a whirlwind. We released new features that drastically improve webcam use in desktop recordings. We sparked quite a debate on Twitter about the merits of caped superheroes. And, we hosted an information filled webinar on using Screencastify to improve student feedback. According to Ms. Johnson at Plano ISD, if you're tasked with providing feedback, it was a must watch.
Whew, it's going to be hard to make the second half of May better than the first half! But, here at Screencastify, we always have a few surprises in store. In honor of Teacher Appreciation Week, we'll be honoring two teachers as the Screencastify Teacher(s) of the Month. What's even more exciting is that each of these teachers will be awarded a $500 DonorsChoose.org gift card and a free Screencastify premium subscription.
Choosing the five finalists from all of the applicants was a tough job. Now, we're tasking you with narrowing the five finalists down to two winners. Take a look below to learn more about the 5 incredibly deserving teachers. Once you've learned more about the candidates, cast your vote.
Candidate 1: The Librarian
Colette, @ccassinelli, serves as the librarian at Sunset High School in Portland. As most librarians are, Colette is committed to teaching her students how to effectively research. Unfortunately, she's only one librarian with over 2,000 students needing her assistance. When Colette discovered Screencastify, she gained a special superpower: the ability to clone herself. Now, she sends screencasts all over the school to make sure every student is a research whizz.
Candidate 2: The Tech Guide
Katie, @beachmont_tech, serves as a Technology teacher in Revere, Massachusetts. Katie is a model for the use of educational technology at her school. As such, she's constantly asked to provide tutorials. She uses Screencastify to create easy to follow tutorials for all of her colleagues. She's also used Screencastify to keep up with her students when she has a substitute. For Katie, Screencastify is the perfect tool for allowing her to be in several places at once.
Candidate 3: The Switch Hitter
Kevin, @thekevinmcline, is so great that he's taken his talents to two different schools. As a teacher in Indiana, school closings are an inevitability. But, Kevin wanted to find a way to continue the learning even when the school building was closed. Once he found Screencastify last year, he was able to speak directly to his students regardless of the weather. This year, he's looking to find ways for students to use the tool.
Candidate 4: The Illuminator
Bethany, @Bethany_Petty, is an author and Social Studies teacher. In her government classes, she frequently uses an in-class flip. Instead of having students engage with any video, she uses Screencastify to record videos specifically tailored to her students. Her students have even gotten in on the fun to create their own screencasts.
Candidate 5: Mr. Pixel
Ryan, @ryan7read, is all about technology integration and the #pixelclassroom. He often uses Screencastify in conjunction with EdPuzzle to flip his classroom. Beyond video, his class is extremely hands on. Students can be seen creating their own pixel projects. Ryan hopes to engage his students in even more projects with his winnings.
